My love for food has always been a big part of my life. It started the moment I was born on 17th September 2001. I was too small to eat solid food at first, but my parents tell me that I loved Cerelac as a baby. That is probably where it all began, my love for eating!
As I grew older, it wasn’t just about cookies, it was all about chocolates and anything sweet. I couldn’t get enough of them! I also loved snacking on chips, biscuits, and whatever sugary treats I could get my hands on. And of course, Sundays were extra special because it was my Maggie day a whole day dedicated to my favorite noodles.
We lived at Prithviraj Road, Lodhi Estate, and for the first six years, I was the only child. Life was pretty great. I got everything I wanted, whether it was a toy or a snack. My dad would bring me anything I asked for. But then things changed when I joined KV Pushp Vihar in class 1.
At first, I really didn’t like school. It was far from home, and I hated waking up early. I remember crying every day before the school van came to pick me up. One day, I even tried to escape from the van, but the driver scolded me so much that I never did that again. Eventually, I got used to it, and school became something I didn’t mind as much.
I have always been studious (don’t ask me why), and I had compete with a girl in my class who was always one step ahead. I had always come close, just one or two marks behind but I never managed to beat her. Until one day, during the poem recitation competition on annual day, I won first place! That moment felt amazing, especially when I got to walk off the stage holding two trophies. My dad was so proud of me.
In class 6, I had to pick an additional subject, and I chose German. I thought it would be easier since that girl chose Sanskrit, but I was wrong. I ended up in Section D, surrounded by really smart students, but I managed to keep up by doing self-study. Of course, I had some tough moments too. In class 9, I scored only 16 marks out of 40 in maths. It was probably one of the worst days of my school life. I was scared about what would happen at home. But with the help of a friend, I managed to improve, and by the end, I scored better than him.
Class 10 was a game-changer. I joined tuition classes, worked hard, and ended up with 10 CGPA in the board exams. The school even gave me Rs. 5000 as a reward for my good performance. That was my first earnings, and it felt amazing!
Throughout all of this, my love for food never changed. I’m a samosa man at heart. I can’t have just one, I always want two samosas at a time! Samosas have always been my go-to snack. But when it comes to food, I’m a bit picky. I don’t eat ghee, butter, or curd. I can’t stand dairy products in general. I drink coffee or tea and I love drinking milk with Bournvita – it’s the best.
At lunch, while everyone else had chapati with ghee, I would bring my own lunch. And when it comes to chicken, I’m a big fan. The only problem was that my family is vegetarian, so I had to sneak out to eat chicken at restaurants. It became my little secret, I had go to places where no one knew me, just to enjoy some fried chicken or grilled chicken.
One of the best food experiences happened when I was in class 9. I went to TGI Fridays at DLF Saket with some friends. I tried their quesadilla and chicken pasta, and I was hooked. From that day, I couldn’t stop thinking about those dishes. I’ve never been able to control my cravings. If I want something, I just have to have it.
But it’s not all junk food for me. I love simple, comforting meals too. Arhar dal with rice is something I can eat every single day, and I never get bored of it. And of course, I can never say no to biryani. A good plate of biryani always makes my day.
By class 11, I had grown a lot. I chose Science and once again found myself in a competition with that same girl from earlier. But this time, I wasn’t worried. I was confident and scored better marks than her. It felt good to finally win after all those years.
Looking back, my love for food has been with me through every part of my life – through school challenges, competition, and all the ups and downs. Whether it was enjoying chocolates as a kid, gorging on samosas and Maggie, or indulging in biryani, food has always been there. I’ve learned a lot, and even though I try to control my cravings now, I’ll always be the same person who can’t resist a good plate of samosas or chicken pasta.
But now, I’ve promised myself that I will try my best not to eat junk food anymore. I also made an agreement with my friend that we both signed a deal to cut down on junk food and make healthier choices. It’s not going to be easy, but I am committed to trying my best. I know it’s time for a change, and I want to stick to it!
Thank you....
